Trixie & Scarlet here! We are taking over the official blog today to bring you some exclusive backstage banter gossip from The Periwinkle Pussycat (26/03/2016). Are you ready for the scoop de jour?

Ah The Periwinkle Pussycat, what a fantastic night. It was so lovely to spend an evening with the burlesque fans of the North East and beyond. A sold out night, in which I was truly proud of because all of the performers, crew, audience gave the night 100%.
More work than I can ever express in this blog goes into running a show. Work predominantly based upon love and devotion to the burlesque art form -I blooming love it.

I set myself a mission to video record the night in question, in an attempt to narrate the production side of The Periwinkle Pussycat, alas, I became increasingly busy as the night progressed and inevitably…er… forgot to document said mission – dork alert!
I did, however, have the opportunity to watch every single act that appeared on The Periwinkle Pussycat stage that very evening. It is a luxury that is very difficult to obtain as a producer and I was truly thankful that I was able to experience the show that so much hard work, love and devotion went into.
What I do have is a series of random pictures and videos clips that hopefully capture the intense passion that the House of Trixie Blue crew have for burlesque – here’s hoping haha!
Stage Manager Sarah, me and Ruby L’amour before the show. Oh what fun!
Unimpressed stage manager Sarah with DJ Gav. Cue The Inbetweeners banter – FRIEND!
DJ Gav and SM Sarah – FTW
Some of our lovely stalls – Little Miss Delicious (although they are not there as yet tee hee), Bubblegum Vegas and Freaks, Friends and Foes… and… Ruby L’amour.
This Periwinkle Pussycat was our biggest to date! We had incredible local talent, comprising of past and present HOTB burlesque students; Coral Calypso, Ruby L’amour, Ruby Rox. Topped off with our beautiful enchantress Scarlet Rose, opera sensation Carman Havalook, fierce & fabulous Tawny Kay and our two INCREDIBLE headliners Lady Wildflower and Aurora Galore. Oh what a night!
During the day, the fantastic Aurora Galore hosted two workshops – Fans and Tassels Galore. Aurora’s energetic and enthusiastic teaching style was utterly fabulous and made the afternoon before the show a hoot and a holla.
Don’t they all look fabulous?
This next video is of Scarlet. A ‘feathered fanned’ Scarlet, enjoying the Fans Galore workshop banter – oh what a giggle. See how she is SUPER excited for the large fans? her biggest fans perhaps? 😉 hahaha oh the bants in pants.
Its that time again! Audience participation time – yeah baby. This time the unsuspecting audience was subjected to ridiculous comedic burlesque moves to the infamous Hot Chocolate’s ‘You sexy thing’ (my coffee now doesn’t seem as appetising, hot chocolate mmmm). If you are a follower of our official blog, you might have seen last weeks Tease with Trixie post, where said audience participation was included, if not, here is its again…for your sins.
At this Periwinkle Pussycat, I débuted a brand new act – I have never been so nervous in my whole performing career (I am sure I say this at every single show haha). I had so much trouble with the costume beforehand (see Scarlet’s blog below for the tale) and even more trouble with the costume after… one of the sleeves went MISSING! OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Keep your eyes peeled for a sleeve that looks like this. Warning – ‘Steve the Sleeve’ is a bad boy, approach with caution.
Wanted: Missing Sleeve
This is a terrified me preparing to debut my brand spanking new act Desvalido
Well there you have it folks, a little bit of backstage banter from my perspective at The Periwinkle Pussycat. Before you go, don’t forget to check out the amazing Scarlet Rose’s blog post below.
Looking forward to partying with you all again soon.

Ah, I had such great plans for a video showing you the unglamorous side of burly show prep, but by the time I’ve started getting ready I am shattered from a day’s uni writing! It would have been incomprehensible nonsense, but the night before a show for me usually consists of the slightly duller maintenance tasks, the clipping, the painting, the packing! Trying out a new nail style for the show, what do you think?
My neatly packed suitcase!
I’m currently sat with a cup of decaffeinated tea while my mother watches a show about Country Life Magazine… How much longer before I can add a Champagne spa retreat to a rider the night before a show? Should we make that an industry standard? I also made sure I wrapped Maggie the cat in a white fur stole, a real glamourpuss! Ey? Bless her.
Look at how sultry she is!
I tried to capture a lot of today on video, so I hope it works! However as ever, most show days are spent grooming beforehand, then doing all the usual prep that I chat about a bit in the video. Then on to Nine Bar for 3 hours of Workshops Galore!
All dressed up and ready to head to the workshops!
Practising my clamshell, thanks to fellow burlesque artists and workshop attendee Betty Bang for the photo!
The workshops were fantastic, I really felt that I was developing my techniques and skills and had so much fun with a whole load of burlesque enthusiasts! After which it was time to start getting ready, finally getting my hair into rollers for onstage, and working some glitter over my eyes. Shamefully I forgot to take a picture, I was so proud of my handiwork as well! I was on in the second act, which meant that while I was watching the fabulous performers in the first half and getting the classic itchy feet of burlesqueing, I knew I’d be able to get up onstage soon, which was marvellous. After a quick change into my easiest costume and some burly team playing as Trixie Blue’s new costume naughtily decided to partly break free (I donated the sewing kit but Aurora was the seamstress on hand), it was time to watch Trixie’s act debut! And bloody nora what a fabulous routine, I’ve been waiting to see it forever and I was not disappointed, she’s such a creative and talented performer. (Can you tell I’m trying not to give anything away?)
Keeping the show face even in mild crisis!
After watching Tawny Kay’s Heart Shaped Box routine- fierce, as ever- and learning a lot about Cuba from compere Jez Hunt, it was my turn! I had so much fun performing this act, The Periwinkle Pussycat audience is always a great one and they make it even more enjoyable. After which I was able to get dressed and enjoy the rest of the show, followed by a bit of socialising with the crowd and then packing my stuff back up (which is always a state. I should have taken a before and after of my suitcase) to take back to Granny Rose’s for the night. And to try and recover from such a busy day!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog and it’s provided some insights, for more on the day, check out the video in the link below. Featuring a bonus cameo of Granny Rose herself at the end!
