Catch up Wednesday: Showgirl Sunday – This week it is *Josephine Baker* By Scarlet Rose

Hey everyone,

Here’s the weekly catch up of Scarlet’s Showgirl Sunday…enjoy!

Time for a vintage icon in this week’s ***Showgirl Sunday***. Quite frankly I’m not even sure icon covers it for the absolute legend that was Josephine Baker.

An incredible dancer and singer yes, but this woman was also a muse to people such as F Scott Fitzgerald and Christian Dior, worked for the French Resistance during WWII and was a prolific civil rights activist credited with helping to stop segregation policies in nightclubs.

An inspiration to many performers since, it is hard to find clips of her routines that haven’t been dubbed with music or looped, but this very short clip of her most famous routine, the Banana Dance doesn’t fail to showcase her talent. If only it were longer!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.

Love & Tassels

  1. I recall that there was a film made of her life a decade or two back.
